Navigation possible but limited

No Comments

From April 19th until May 12th, 2020, pleasure boating is allowed within 2 miles of your island. Ni inter-island is allowed unless approved by DPAM. No passage between Taihiti and Moorea is allowed. It is prohibited for all pleasure craft on an international voyage towards French Polynesia to stop, anchor or station here, or to offload anyone in the territorial waters until further notice.

Art. 11: By way of derogation to Art. 10, the head of Maritime Affairs, in relation with the local Maritime Authority, may authorize a stop over or anchorage of a pleasure craft in need of technical assistance or re-provisioning under the heading of international agreements. Such granted authorizations are for a limited time. In this case, pleasure vessels must announce themselves forty eight (48) hours prior to arrival, the captain must make contact and indicate the health status of all persons to the Port of Papeete and the JRCC, and advise as the case may be the relevant symptoms (fever, cough…). The passengers and crew of these vessels authorized to stop over are not authorized to disembark, at a dock or at sea without having observed quarantine on board the vessel for at least 14 days from their last stop over. After this period, the rules in force for all other people will apply to those on board.

Health coverage in French Polynesia

No Comments

Since 2014, boaters have been able to stay for 36 months (with a long-term visa for non-EU nationals) with their boat duty-free. Beyond this period, the boat must leave Polynesia, or be subject to an import tax calculated on the estimated value of the property (rate of about 7%, in 2018).

Boaters who no longer have, for one reason or another, health coverage, whether public or private, are required to register with the CPS (Local Social Security) after 6 months of stay in Polynesia (Consolidated Law 94-6, Articles 8 and 9). This also applies to foreigners.

There are 3 social protection schemes in FP:
The employee and pensioner plan: you receive a salary or a pension;
The non-salary scheme (SNR): in other cases;
The Solidarity Scheme (STR) applies only to persons with a total income (including investments) below a certain ceiling (87,346 XPF/month for a single person, 97.346 XPF/month for a couple, in 2016). (***)

Registration forms must be withdrawn from a local SPC branch or downloadable from their website (www//cps.pf).

Following the filing of the full file, you will get a 6-digit affiliation number (DN) the card certifying your rights is to be downloaded from the site. Therefore, you benefit from the assumption of your health expenses, in terms similar to that of metropolitan France.
But all these steps and the final decision of your affiliation can take time.

You will have to contribute according to your resources in any of these plans: RNS: 9.54% (2016), RST: free.

In case of a delay in registration, a catch-up of contributions over the period concerned may be claimed at the time of registration, calculated according to your date of entry into the territory.

Illness does not prevent and you will avoid a lot of hassle by following these guidelines rather than being forced to do so in an emergency.

The French Social Security no longer covers your health costs after 6 continuous months spent outside the metropolis.

In some cases, the RST may be accessible to browsers that meet the revenue requirements.
